ABOUT THE TALK
Hollywood has long deployed representations of ancient Rome as a commentary on contemporary sexual and social values. This talk will analyze Hollywood depictions of elite Roman females as aggressive voyeurs, exploring the ways in which they illuminate and comment on the changing sexual and social roles of modern women.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Dr. Monica Cyrino is the author of numerous books and articles on Classics and popular culture, including Big Screen Rome (Blackwell 2005) and Aphrodite (Routledge 2010). She has appeared on The History Channel and served as a consultant on recent film and television productions. She is a Professor of Classics at the University of New Mexico.
