Welcome to the English Department! We are devotees of the word. We read and celebrate powerful writing, and we bring more writing into the world. This mission drives everything we do, from freshman composition instruction to the most advanced research.
The English major explores the ways in which writers from Chaucer to Sandra Cisneros have understood, imagined, and expressed the nature of the human condition. We provide a variety of settings--seminars, workshops, lectures, tutorials--where our students learn about literary history, literary theory, literary journalism, and creative writing.
