Comparative Literature Graduate Conference 2024
Humanities Instructional Building (HIB) 135
April 11-12, 2024
Thursday 12:00PM -6:30PM - Kevnote: Prof. Idris Robinson
Friday 12:00PM-6:30PM - Keynote: Prof. David Marriott
Violence makes for a familiar ground in the academy, buttressing contemporary articulations of materiality just as it contours the unthought enclosures of idealist actuality. This Conference seeks to investigate violence as a potentially unstable category between disciplines. We aim to explore the tenuous distinctions that theories of violence have often upheld, such as state violence and revolutionary violence, or law-making and law-preserving. The interdisciplinary presentations comprising this conference aim to identify the tenses, constructions, and modalities in which violence takes shape as a distinct form.
