A Message from the Associate Dean
If you are considering pursuing graduate studies in the Humanities, UC Irvine is the right place for you.
Many of our graduate programs are highly ranked across the nation. Through innovative and collaborative efforts in recent years, our faculty have created various initiatives to enrich the educational experience and support the professional development of our graduate students.
Our programs have done remarkably well in training students for academic positions, placing a significant number of our PhDs in tenure-track and other academic jobs after they received their degrees. In 2016, the School of Humanities joined twenty-five institutions across the U.S. in the NEH-sponsored “Next Generation Humanities Ph.D.” project in an effort to think about the future of graduate education in the Humanities and to broaden the career paths of our students. Since then, we have continued to explore ways to prepare them for academic as well as non-academic employment opportunities, where they could also fully utilize their knowledge and skills.
My colleagues and I in the Office of Graduate Study are happy to assist prospective and continuing students. So, please contact us if you have any questions or suggestions.
