A Message from the Associate Dean
If you are considering pursuing graduate studies in the Humanities, UC Irvine is the right place for you.
Many of our graduate programs are highly ranked across the nation. Through innovative and collaborative efforts in recent years, our faculty have created new programs for graduate students.
We have done remarkably well in training students for academic positions, placing a significant number of our Ph.D.s in tenure-track and other academic jobs after they received their degrees. Meanwhile, we are now exploring ways to prepare them for other kinds of employment opportunities, where they could also fully utilize their knowledge and skills. Under the auspices of Humanities Center, we have joined twenty-five institutions across the U.S. in the NEH-sponsored “Next Generation Humanities Ph.D.” project in an effort to think about the future of graduate education in the Humanities.
In strengthening existing programs and developing new ones, we are increasingly exploring collaborative opportunities with colleagues in other schools on the UCI campus and with institutions across the country and overseas.
The staff and I in the Office of Graduate Study are always happy to assist prospective and continuing students. So, please contact us if you have any questions or suggestions.
