Charles Yu is an award winning author who works across media. His Interior Chinatown (2020), which won the 2020 National Book Award for Fiction, was shortlisted for the Le Prix Médicis étranger, and longlisted for the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction. His other novels and short story collections include Sorry Please Thank You (2012), How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe (2010), and Third Class Superhero (2006). He has received the National Book Foundation’s 5 Under 35 Award, been nominated for two Writers Guild of America awards for his work on the HBO series Westworld.

In this Friday Forum, Yu will discuss a wide range of topics, from leaving a career in law to become a fiction writer, to his experience writing for television shows like HBO's Westworld and AMC's Lodge 49, and developing television series like the Hulu adaptation of Interior Chinatown, to Taiwanese American identity and his work promoting fiction by young Taiwanese American writers.
