What happens if the recently landed Mars Rover, Perseverance, encounters mud or water? It would need to abandon its route. But Oregon Tech students are working on a new concept and design that would allow an amphibious submarine (Rover Sub) the ability to move around muddy areas with wheels and explore underwater with thrusters similar to a submarine. Teams are also working on RoboSub V2, an unmanned, untethered submarine system they'll take to an international competition this summer. Complete with an autonomous torpedo (which we've been assured is completely harmless in these first steps).
