Katherine Cosby (a second-year PhD student in our program) has been awarded a graduate research grant from the UC Consortium for Black Studies in California. Her proposal was selected from a competition that included 44 submitted proposals with 4 resulting faculty awards and 8 resulting student awards. Katherine will be using her award this summer to conduct research in a number of Brazilian archives, advancing her dissertation project, "Afro-descendant Women's Political Actions Early-Twentieth Century.
