It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Professor Rae Linda Brown who played an important role in the development of African American Studies and served as Professor of Music at UCI. Professor Brown passed on August 20, 2017 after a brief battle with cancer. She will be remembered for her kind spirit, energy, and mentorship in addition to her scholarly legacy. Brown is well-known for her scholarship on American music, Black American music, and specifically the work of composer Florence Price. At the time of her passing she was Provost of Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington.
