In Winter Quarter 2026, Professor Nisbet and the Art History Social Hour (AH 197) class visited Chicago. Even though it was extremely cold, the group was looking forward to seeing impressive architecture, bonding with one another, and most excitingly, visiting the Art Institute of Chicago.
The group arrived on Sunday night and started the trip off with some delicious local cuisine at the Gage Restaurant. The next morning, they woke up bright and early to go on an architecture tour around the city with Professor Nisbet. Despite the chill, students reported that this was a huge highlight of the trip! For the rest of the day, the group got to check out the Art Institute of Chicago and its famed collections. Each student was in charge of researching and speaking about a work on display, so everyone got to learn a little more about one another's interests and favorite pieces.
The group came back abuzz and reported that it was a fantastic overall trip and unique chance to spend time outside of the classroom with other majors. For many students, this was one of the first times they got to see such celebrated artworks in person. This trip was made possible through generous funding from the Steckler Family Initiative in Art History.
