A one-day workshop project, scheduled for April 18, 2025, bringing together scholars from different disciplines to mark the anniversary of Jacques Derrida’s death, and start reflecting on how he has played a part in the destiny of the Humanities and Critical Theory at UCI. The participants, all based on UC campuses, will also provide a reflection on the Californian dimension of Derrida's teaching, and its influence at UCI.  Participants will include Georges Van Den Abeele (UCI), Jacques Lezra (UCR), Elisabeth Weber (UC Santa Barbara), Christophe Litwin (UCI), Steven Mailloux (UCI), Horacio Legras (UCI), and Catherine Malabou (UCI).  Moderated by Tyler Williams (Midwestern State University).

The University Archives will generously make available a few boxes of Derrida's archives for consultation from 4-5 pm the day before the workshop in the Special Collections and Archives Room, 5th Floor of Langson Library.   The Special Collections and Archives are also open 10 am - 2 pm, M-F.

Made possible with the collaboration of the UCI Libraries Special Collections and Archives and the support of UCI Comparative Literature, European Languages and Studies, Humanities Center, and the UC Humanities Research Institute.
