Join Us for a Special Scholarly Values, AI, and Teaching Event
Date: Friday, March 21, 2025
Time: 4:00-6:00 PM
Location: Anteater Learning Pavilion (1600)
We are hosting a special event focused on the Scholarly Values, AI, and Teaching. At this event, our panelists and the audience will engage in a conversation about how the latest advances in AI impact the teaching and learning of students in the context of the Anteater Virtues. We will look at the intersection of curiosity and creativity and consider how AI can enhance human creativity while also bringing about certain pitfalls. We will also discuss humility (openness to new ideas), tenacity (strength of convictions), and the role of AI in impacting how we process information, especially things we either strongly agree or disagree with. Finally, we will touch on the impact of AI on academic integrity, and how we are experiencing that at UC Irvine.
Moderated by Michael Dennin, Vice Provost for Teaching & Learning, the
panel will include:
- Jonathan Alexander – Chancellor’s Professor of English and Informatics; Director of the Humanities Core Course
- Melissa Mazmanian – Chancellor's Fellow; Professor and Chair of the Department of Informatics; Professor of Organization and Management
- Duncan Pritchard – Distinguished Professor of Philosophy; Director of the Center for Knowledge, Technology & Society; Director of the Anteater Virtues campuswide curriculum project
- Angela Jenks – Associate Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion; Professor of Teaching in the Department of Anthropology
Following the panel and audience discussion, there will be a reception with food, drink, and fun conversations. We hope to see you at this exciting event!
