Alberto Gullaba Jr. was born in Honokaa, Hawaii. He went on to earn his BA in Government and Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia. Afterwards, as a member of Teach For America, he taught elementary in Miami, Florida. He earned his Fiction MFA here at UCI, where he still teaches. He now lives in Long Beach.
