Event: Filmmaker Masa Fox Presents: Between Tides (2018)
Wednesday, November 8th
4:00pm
McCormick Screening Room HG 1070
Filmmaker Masa Fox will present his 2018 documentary film Between Tides, which follows the multi-ethnic Bonin Islanders who grew up on an island in the Pacific Ocean as Japanese nationals under a U.S. Navy occupation following the Second World War. Having obtained at least a narrow view of American life that was complicated by their own mixed heritage, these islanders faced the painful task of having to accept the reversion of the islands to Japan in 1968. Between Tides explores the stories of a postwar community torn apart and re-bonded by history. For more info, visit betweentidesmovie.com. The screening will be preceded by an introduction from the director, and will be followed by a Q&A.
Event is being co-sponsored by The Department of East Asian Studies and the Environmental Humanities Research Center.
