You're warmly invited to the next UCI Ethics Center Workshop:

Workshop Title: Difficult Religious Dialogues
Speaker: Dr. Joseph McKenna, Senior Lecturer, Department of Religious Studies and History, UCI
Date & Time: Monday, April 28, 2:00–4:50 p.m.
Location: Online (via Zoom, link below)

Abstract:
Difficult conversations can have powerful ethical effects, especially when they help foster mutual understanding across deep divides. But how do we engage in meaningful dialogue when it comes to unsolvable religious disagreements?
In this workshop, Dr. Joseph McKenna will share insights from a popular general education course he co-created with Dr. Paula Garb through a Ford Foundation grant in 2007. Dr. McKenna has taught the course annually ever since, and in 2021, he received a Humanities Teaching Award in recognition of his work. He’ll discuss the origins of the course and invite participants to engage in a few of the same thought-provoking conversations that thousands of UCI students have experienced over the years.

About the Speaker:
Dr. Joseph McKenna is a Senior Lecturer in Religious Studies and History at UCI. He joined the university in 1999 through the former Student-Recommended Faculty program, which emphasized collaborative faculty hiring between students and departments. His teaching and research focus on the intersections of religion, ethics, and historical context.
