Join us for NEH Summer Stipends info session on Monday, August 19, 1-2 pm. Register for the Zoom session here: https://uci.zoom.us/j/98055056569

The National Endowment for the Humanities’ Summer Stipends program aims to stimulate new research and publication in the humanities by:

  • providing small awards to individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both.
  • supporting projects at any stage of development, but especially early-stage research and late-stage writing in which small awards are most effective.

Summer Stipends support continuous full-time work on research-based projects in the humanities for a period of two consecutive months. NEH funds may support recipients’ compensation, travel, and other costs related to the proposed scholarly research. The outputs of a successful Summer Stipends award may include, but are not limited to, articles, books, digital resources and publications, archaeological reports, critical editions, translations (with annotations or critical apparatus), and other scholarly resources, or research intended to be disseminated in one or more of those formats.

UCI faculty are eligible to apply directly to the Summer Stipend program through grants.gov as faculty at an AANAPISI institution. Other eligibility requirements:

  • U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or a foreign national who has lived in the United States or its jurisdictions for at least the three years prior to the application deadline.
  • Individuals who have not previously held an NEH award in any of its programs for individuals.

Detailed guidelines and applications instructions, included a recorded NEH webinar, are available here: https://www.neh.gov/grants/research/summer-stipends
