Michael has a new publication on The Ontology of Music Groups titled "Once More, With Feeling! A Joint Commitment Account of Musical Groups"

ABSTRACT

This chapter inquires the nature of musical groups generally. According to the view developed in what follows, musical groups are special groups which have idiosyncratic properties: they are music-related, can have non-human members as members per se (such as cartoons, robots, AI, and non-human animals), and can even be a proper group with only a single member. Joint commitments as postulated and invoked by Margaret Gilbert across her wide body of work are at the center of my proposal. Throughout, the chapter examines the identity of bands with changing members, grapples quickly with the metaphysics of music, and provides insight into the nature of playing music together.
