The Department of English expresses our solidarity with the students, faculty, staff, and community members who were suspended, threatened with arrest, arrested, beaten, or otherwise intimidated while engaged in peaceful protest on the UCI campus on May 15th. We demand that UCI affirm the fundamental right to protest and to free speech, and we call on the campus to investigate fully and transparently what happened that day, including the decision-making at the highest levels.
