The UCI School of Humanities offers several opportunities for first-generation students to succeed in their first year—and beyond—as students and scholars. The school is committed to the educational and professional development of its students, with several programs devoted to fostering community, belonging, success, and expression among its first-generation students. Each fall, the School offers a first-year seminar designed to help first-gen students transition into the university, as well as critically engage and master the hidden curriculum. Throughout the year the School also offers mentorship and publishing opportunities through its robust peer mentoring program and Lucid, a literary and arts journal featuring the work of first-gen students.
