2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the end of the Viet Nam War and the foundation of the Vietnamese American community. Although the din of rural battlefields has long fallen silent across Viet Nam, the chaotic conclusion of the war has left an enduring legacy that continues to shape our present world. In the immediate aftermath of the conflict, hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese refugees fled the country and found their way to the United States, eventually settling in Orange County, where they built Little Saigon, the largest Vietnamese community outside of Viet Nam and a major cultural and economic center for both the global Vietnamese diaspora and Southern California.
