The Smart Museum of the University of Chicago Preparator supports the Museum’s permanent collection, academic engagement, exhibition, and facilities activity. Reporting to the Associate Director of Exhibition Design and Production, the Preparator regularly collaborates with curators, faculty, students, galleries, institutions, artists and community partner organizations and the public. The Preparator will support the Smart’s efforts to provide access to collections and loaned works through its Feitler Center academic engagement, public practice and exhibition programs. The Preparator will work closely with curators and other exhibition staff to supervise and participate in exhibition installation, rotations, and deinstallation and works closely with the Feitler Center staff to facilitate the active use of collection and loaned artworks by faculty and students for classes and research visits, and colleagues in public practice to support use of the collection for our public engagement programming.

This is a 35 hour per week benefits eligible grant funded 12-month position.  While we hope to secure funding to continue the position after 12 months, the current position is only funded for one year.

Education: Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Experience: Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
