This second conference reconsiders Nancy’s philosophical opus in light of his final work, Cruor (Galilée 2022), translated into English by Jeff Fort and published by Fordham University Press under the title, Corpus III (2024). Returning to the conclusion of the first Corpus, Nancy reinterrogates the betweenness of bodies that defines the relation between self and other but also that between self and self. Those relations, always singular plural, occur only in their interruption, in their syncope, the rhythmic pulse of the blood (sanguis) that defines life when it does not spill out of its borders as cruor, as the ex-stasis of irreducible exteriority. In following Nancy’s reworking of the intra- and inter-corporal, we will reassess the fate of key Nancean concerns (finitude, being-with, technics, touching, sexistence, adoration, etc.) and his ever-shifting relation to the philosophical tradition in his later works.
