The UCI Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies invites applications for the Fernando and Olga Niebla Latinx/Hispanic Studies Graduate Fellowships for summer research or writing.

Application deadline: April 13th, 2026

Award amount: two awards of $2,500 each

Notification: by May 18th, 2026

Eligibility: PhD candidates working on Latin America (including Brazil), the Caribbean, and US-Latinx studies. Fields: Humanities or Social Sciences/Social Ecology using humanistic approaches and methodologies.

Requirements: Project description (two page maximum); CV (one page maximum)

Fellowships will be disbursed in July 2026 and should be used towards research travel, dissertation writing or other activities that allow the student to advance his/her career during the summer.

Applications must be submitted online by Monday, April 13th, 11:59 p.m. using our application portal: https://ucihumanities.infoready4.com/.

To apply, log in to https://ucihumanities.infoready4.com/ with your UCI NetID. Click on LOGIN in the top right corner of the homepage and then use the UCI Login button.

If this is your first time applying through InfoReady, immediately click on your name in top right corner. Add your department as your primary unit if you are in the School of Humanities. If you might also apply for funding through an SOH based center, you can add the center as a secondary unit.

  1. Select Fernando and Olga Niebla Latinx/Hispanic Studies Graduate Fellowships 2026 from the list of open competitions.

  2. Complete the application form, including

  • Name

  • Department

  • Year and quarter achieved candidacy

  • Dissertation advisor/committee chair name and email address

  • Project title

  1. Upload a project narrative and CV as a single PDF.

  • 1-2 pages description of the project or work to be completed during the fellowship period.

  • 1-page C.V.
