PhD Candidate, UCI Department of English
Chelsea Lee is a 6th year PhD candidate in the UCI English department. Her research bridges medieval and early modern literatures, especially how theories of death, medicine, and the human body intersect and how that seeps into the dramatic, poetic, religious, and secular texts of their time. Her dissertation, “Death without Dying: Playing Dead on the Shakespearean Stage,” focuses on the trope of false death in Shakespeare’s plays and how they can be read as extensions of medieval and early modern death arts.
