
A New Era? Global Humanities and Developments in China
Ping Chen Hsiung currently serves as the Secretary General of the International Council for Philosophy and Human Sciences / Conseil International de la Philosophies et des Sciences Humaines (CIPSH), a non-governmental organization within UNESCO. Dr. Hsiung has been jointly appointed by the UCI School of Humanities and CIPSH for a second five-year term as CIPSH Chair in Global Humanities in the School of Humanities. She received her Ph.D. in History from Brown University and her S.M. in Population Studies and International Health from Harvard University. Dr. Hsiung is Professor of History and Director of the Taiwan Research Centre at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her main research interest lies in the area of women’s and children’s health.
Dr. Hsiung will provide a perspective on the humanities globally based on her work with CIPSH and share some significant developments in Chinese humanities.
