The Humanities Office of Undergraduate Study offers advising through email, drop-in advising, scheduled appointments, and online chat during the Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters.

The Humanities Undergraduate Office will be closed during the Winter Break.  Messages received during 12/19/25 - 1/5/26 will be responded to when we reopen on 1/5/26.

10-15-minute meetings with an Academic Advisor or Peer Academic Advisor with no advanced scheduling needed.

Available Weeks 1 through 10, Monday through Friday from 10-11:30am and 1-3:30pm. Friday drop-ins during Weeks 3, 4, 5, and 9 are with Peer Academic Advisors only.

Non-Humanities majors are eligible for drop-in advising during Weeks 2-7 and 10.

Please visit the Humanities Office of Undergraduate Study in 143 Humanities Instructional Building (HIB) and check-in at the front desk to sign in for a drop-in meeting.

  • 30-minute meetings scheduled in advance through the UCI Appointments system.
  • Intended for students with more complex issues or numerous questions that require longer discussion

Appointments will be available beginning Week 2 of the quarter. If appointments are full, it is recommended that you attend drop-in advising or email an advisor with your questions.

Online Chat is available intermittently during office hours. If a Peer Academic Advisor is not available to answer questions live via chat, students may leave a message through the chat system. A response will be sent to the student’s UCI email address within 1-3 business days.

 

Frequently Asked Questions

Academic advising is available to Humanities students through the Humanities Office of Undergraduate Study to ensure students have a resource for their academic questions or concerns, have a clear understanding of their degree requirements, and feel confident in their path toward graduation.

Academic advising is not required after completing mandatory new student advising in the summer, but is recommended if you have questions about your quarterly schedule, degree requirements or progress, or academic policies or procedures. Students are encouraged to check in with an academic advisor every one to three quarters to ensure they are making adequate degree progress.

Review your Unofficial Transcript and DegreeWorks through StudentAccess and make note of any questions you have for your academic advisor.

When meeting with an advisor to discuss your next quarter’s schedule, it is recommended that you review the Schedule of Classes in advance and make a note of courses you are considering enrolling in.

Academic advisors can only provide information on academics as they relate to the School of Humanities. For questions relating to majors in other Schools, please contact the advising office of that major: academicadvising.uci.edu/offices/.

Questions or issues relating to financial aid, scholarships, and loans should be directed to the UCI Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.

Questions regarding visas or international status should be directed to the UCI International Center.
