Are you a Humanities major who cares about the environment? Are you interested in helping others understand climate change? Would you like to learn more about how climate change unevenly affects different California communities, and what scientists, policymakers, and community leaders are doing to address these impacts? Do you have a passion for communication and an interest in growing your skill set?
If so, this service learning program in Climate Communications may be for you! As part of WUICAN, the Wildlands-Urban Interface Climate Action Network, you will work with a campus or community partner on communications projects related to environmental justice and community-driven solutions to climate change. As a Climate Communications Intern, you will assist with projects such as social media posts, composing or contributing to news items, and supporting meetings and events. You will also receive two P/NP units by enrolling in WR 197 | Writing Internship, with Prof. Julia Lupton. This credit-bearing service learning opportunity will broaden your skills and employment horizons while engaging you in meaningful climate action work.
The program will take place Fall, 2024 and is open to UCI undergraduate humanities majors. Preference will be given to seniors and juniors with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
