Admission to the Master of English Program is determined by careful review of the applicants' prior academic performance, writing sample, three letters of recommendation, statement of purpose, and personal history statement.  Admissions are made for the Fall Quarter of each year.  The application and supporting documents (transcripts, writing sample, letters of recommendation, statement of purpose, and personal history statement) are required by the January 15th deadline.

Admission Requirement
A bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA is a University prerequisite for admission, which may be waived in exceptional cases.  The application must include three letters of recommendation, unofficial transcripts of all academic work, and a writing sample.

International Applicants
Master of English students take 6 units per quarter during the academic year.  The F-1 (Academic Student) and J-1 (Exchange Visitor) visas both require a minimum of 12 units per quarter.  The Master of English program will not satisfy the requirements for these visas, and cannot accept applications from students who need to obtain one.
